It’s Official (Boy’s Life magazine is great in so many ways!)

22 Aug

Greetings Leaders…

We’ve got so many things going on in the District this month with School visits and Roundups going as we speak… one of the things we’ll be talking about to the boys as they sign up is subscribing to Boy’s Life Magazine. We kind of glaze over the subject because there are just so many things to cover on sign up night (aren’t they always a little bit of chaos?). But there are so many reasons to encourage your boys (and parents) to subscribe to Boy’s Life Magazine… after all, it IS the OFFICIAL magazine of the Boy Scouts of America!

First – Boys will WANT to read… how often does that happen? If we can get them to read just a little something about what interests them, like SCOUTING!! that can lead to so many other opportunities in helping a boy become a better reader!

Second – Boys who read Boy’s Life Magazine STAY IN SCOUTS LONGER!!! WHY? because they see some of the cool activities going on in Scouting all over the country, it stirs the imagination and helps them to find things that other boys are doing that might interest them… and hopefully they’ll get into more stuff (I mean the good stuff!)

Third – Boy’s Life is a GREAT RESOURCE… just take a look at the Boy’s Life website and see some of the great resources it provides in the way of educational value and some of the cutting edge programs that your boys can take part in as they get older and grow through Scouting. Here’s a “for instance”:

a. Boy’s who have just crossed over into Boy Scouts should check out this page about advancing to Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class… there’s a cool video to watch – http://bit.ly/mSCQyF

b. The print version always references some cool links on the web for this month’s issue… check this out for September’s issue: http://bit.ly/rn0QVz

c. ALWAYS some cool links and tips from the Gear Guy! Boys, especially your older guys, are all gear heads when the get more involved in Camping and Hiking and other outdoor pursuits… here’s the gear guy’s blog on boyslife.org – http://bit.ly/qLyhNa

There’s so many cool reasons to subscribe to the BSA’s OFFICIAL magazine, not to mention things like new ideas, new programs like National Jamboree, new stories… get your boys more engaged by encouraging them to subscribe!

New boys joining at Roundup this season can subscribe when they first sign up. Returning boys can subscribe anytime online or, of course, at re-charter time…

See you out there!
